Chemistry...

I have always wondered what draws a person to another. We make friends so easily with some people... Its instinctual... Chemistry, its termed. You have a good chemistry, people say. But I have always wondered how it works. Haven't you?

It is defined as a force acting between two people that tends to draw them together and resist their separation. Causes are stated as similarity (Birds of a feather flock together) , more exposure to a person, complementarity (Opposites attract) and so on and so forth. But it still doesn't explain it completely. It is easier to just presume it to be another one of the mysterious workings of our mind and let it be. But the question still stands...

  1. i guess its not the exposure, but the your ability to trust the person, for the more you meet him/her the more you see their pattern of behaviour and more you are at peace, for they dont jump their behaviour frequently to keep you confused. Though it s another fact that girls always tend to confuse the male species.

  2. Well, technically exposure is not meant in the normal sense here. I meant the "Mere Exposure Effect" which is a psychological phenomenon. But yes, what you say makes sense, its how comfortable you get with a person. but that is not the only thing I'm talking about.. What makes you like the person that first time, you know? Before you have time to know the person. There are some people that you instinctively feel closer to than others. Why does that happen, I wonder!

  3. Yeah, I agree with Anu. It's not the normal kind of exposure. I think chemistry is different than comfort. The exposure that "Lost in Venus" refers to in their comment above leads to comfort and trust. Chemistry is a whole other issue.

I've been wondering much of the same question, Anu. Why do we feel attracted to things and people we know may not be good for us? Like an untrustworthy friend we can't stop loving, or like sudden craving for 8 shots of rum in one night that we know will harm our liver? Many more examples come to mind...but the point remains...there are some things we are instinctively drawn to. Why? Tell me if you find out, hun.

    Miss you.

  4. I don't think I ever will, that we ever will. But I think the only thing we can do is enjoy whatever we can as much as we can...

    Miss you, too, hon.
